Religious Education Intent, Implementation and Impact
Religious Education offers a range of experiences with opportunities for children to develop their own beliefs, values and ideals. It gives children the opportunity to sensitively study and explore world religions and foster a respect, tolerance and an understanding for all people, their beliefs, cultures and lifestyles through the Lancashire Scheme of Work (Warrington agreed syllabus.) This along with enrichment opportunities linked to RE supports the development of the 5 core British Values.
Lancashire agreed syllabus:
The syllabus aims to support pupils’ personal search for meaning as they explore what it means to be human. It continues to follow the Lancashire Field of Enquiry model, but also specifies knowledge and skills which build towards clear goals at the end of each key stage. This ensures that the curriculum is progressive, clearly sequenced and suitably ambitious.
Intent:
Here at Park Road, we believe that it Religious Education is an essential part of the curriculum. It allows children to learn about different World Religions and develop their knowledge of the world that they live in. We encourage children to reflect on their own thoughts, values and beliefs and also develop their understanding of the 5 British values. Through a carefully planned RE curriculum, children will become aware of different faiths, beliefs and cultures and in turn develop their tolerance and respect for different cultures and communities.
Implementation:
The Religious Education curriculum at Park Road Primary School explores key faiths, including:
- Christianity
- Islam
- Buddhism
- Judaism
- Hinduism
The ideas and curriculum content (taken from Warrington Agreed syllabus) taught allows children to build and develop a range of knowledge and grasp a bigger picture about the presence of the high number of beliefs, thoughts and religions around the world.
Religious Education is taught by teachers and overseen by the Religious Education Leader, who monitors the teaching through lesson observations, pupil voice and book looks. Teachers are supported through the Lancashire syllabus and have access to sequential long- and medium-term plans. Regular retrieval opportunities are in place to continue to embed and practise skills learnt across year groups. Children have opportunities across the year groups to visit local churches/ places of worship and visitors into school to talk about beliefs/ religions.
Impact:
Children will have a secure knowledge of the main world religions.
Children will know key beliefs, practises and traditions within these religions and be able to articulate their own values and beliefs.
Children will demonstrate the 5 British values
